This Happened...

The embryos didn't make it. I got the call this morning from my fertility doctor, Doctor Glassner. He wanted to call me personally to break the news. We have a long and wonderful patient/doctor relationship...he's been helping us since 2006! I hung up the phone, took a deep breath and then...

I ran downstairs and made an announcement. Today was the day Brian would return to school. He had been out sick for one week and one day. He finished his breakfast - I plopped his shoes on quickly and we made it in time. He was thrilled.

I came home from dropping him off and made another announcement. We were taking Gavin to the YMCA. We loaded his walker in the car and off we went. If I was heart crushingly depressed...the last two events were helping to bring me back to life. This one especially. Take a look at Gavin's walker practice on the basketball court...

He was so proud. There was nothing to bang into so he just walked...

...and walked.

Miss Sara and I were so proud of him.

We all picked Brian up from school and he came running up to show me the coolest paper bag puppet I had ever seen. He made it himself!!

Once home, we fed the boys lunch and then this happened...

Ed bought almost ALL of the flowers in Trader Joe's - so many that they just gave him the buckets they store them in. And he bought me my favorite favorite favorite meal (er, I mean dessert?) of all time - a fruit tart from Pathmark.

And he threw in a chocolate bar and caramel creme brownies. I think he was afraid that he'd come home and find me in a heap, huddled in the corner twirling my hair and staring into space. I told him I was two seconds from that but thank God he arrived with that fruit tart. It saved my life.

Then Ed made an announcement. He was kidnapping me. We went to lunch and drowned our sorrows in soup and salad. And then finished our day touring our backyard - Valley Forge Park.

Please say a little prayer for me.

  1. I'm so, sorry Kate that this cycle didn't work out. I am praying for you.

I am so, so impressed with Gavin and his walking! LOOK AT HIM GO! Go, Gavin, Go!! How incredible was that! What a brilliant idea to take him to the basketball court and let him go to town!

And I love, love, love Brian's beautiful smile. Looks like he had an awesome day at school!

And your hubby's such a keeper. Flowers, chocolate and tarts? Oh my! He knows how to spoil you. And lunch and an afternoon together? Heaven.

I know your heart is hurting, and there's nothing we can do to make it better, but know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you work through your pain and the upcoming decisions. I pray for peace for you all with whatever you decide to do/not do.

  2. Kate.....good for you, keep focusing on the good, and eventually the pain in your heart will soften a bit......

Awww I loved the video, what an awesome place to go to go-go-go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xo

  3. Wow. What a loving husband. When I read this post and look at the photos I see a lot of love. Brian just has the cutest expresion on his face as he is coming to meet you after school. And seeing Gavin continue to work so hard just touches my heart. You have a lot of love in your life Kate, a lot.
